Job Description

We are looking for a Shift Security Guard to join our team at Hartlepool Power Station. This will be working a shift pattern of days, nights and weekends on a rolling rotation after initial training is complete.

Our Security Team is made up of colleagues from a range of backgrounds and experiences, all contributing to the safe and secure operation of Hartlepool's Power Station.

The Opportunity

The successful candidates will be required to carry out security duties, including personnel and vehicle access control, foot patrols, maintaining appropriate security records and searches with particular emphasis on the use of modern security techniques.

Pay, benefits and culture

The salary for this role is £36,497. You'll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all activities, including those undertaken by contractors and partners, comply with site licence requirements, security arrangements, statutory regulations, company procedures, and safety standards, demonstrating integrity, transparency, and professionalism always.
  • Undertake and advise on general security guard duties, acting as a trusted ambassador for the station and maintaining the highest standards of conduct.
  • Manage access and egress controls for personnel, vehicles, and restricted areas with professionalism, fairness, and consistency.
  • Carry out security duties including patrols, searches, monitoring systems, and incident response activities, exercising sound judgement and accountability.
  • Maintain accurate records of occurrences and all logs related to the security department, producing management reports as required and ensuring information is recorded with accuracy, transparency, and attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues, contractors, visitors, and members of the public, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
  • Support the station's emergency arrangements as a trained member of the Emergency Team, responding professionally and calmly to incidents and developing situations.
  • Build positive working relationships across the station, fostering trust, collaboration, and mutual respect.
  • Uphold the values of integrity, transparency, and professionalism, contributing positively to a strong team culture focused on safety, security, inclusion, and operational excellence.
Skills and Experience
Essential
  • As a minimum, applicants will be educated to GCSE/national qualification standards (or equivalent). Candidates with these qualifications that include 'c' and above grade passes in English and mathematics will have an advantage.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Applicants will need to be articulate, well-mannered and be able to respond in a tactful and discretionary manner. The ability to complete detailed and meaningful verbal and written reports of specific and routine incidents is also required.
  • Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn new systems.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and collaboratively within a team.
  • The role requires a reasonable level of fitness to undertake patrol activities and respond effectively to operational situations. Full training and support will be provided
Desirable
  • Previous Security experience.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Security or equivalent qualification.
  • Security Industry Authority (SIA) qualification or experience gained within security, customer service, operational, public service, safety-critical, hospitality, healthcare, facilities management, logistics or similar environments would be advantageous
  • Experience working in a regulated, operational, customer-facing, emergency response, or public service environment.

No previous nuclear experience is required. Comprehensive training will be provided to develop the technical, security and emergency response skills required to be successful in the role.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 3 years.
