Qualifications

  • Proven experience in security management and vetting.
  • Familiarity with UK Government standards and security frameworks (List X, IPSA).
  • Strong understanding of security protocols, surveillance systems, and crisis management.
  • Experience managing security incidents and investigations.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Relevant certifications in Security Management or similar fields.
  • A high level of discretion and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with stakeholders to develop and enforce security strategies protecting plant, people and sensitive information.
  • Oversee security vetting and liaise with People Director on concerns; assist with licenses for handling explosive materials.
  • Complete security risk and impact assessments by job role and department.
  • Advise management, employees and contractors on measures to protect Government classified information.
  • Ensure Security Aspect Letters (SAL) are circulated and adhered to.
  • Coordinate Defence Security and Assurance Services audits.
  • Ensure breaches are recorded/reported to authorities as required.
  • Train workforce on security protocols and raise awareness of risks.
  • Monitor effectiveness of security measures and update as necessary.
  • Inform other functions on Government and commercial security requirements including cyber and physical threats.
  • Oversee all site visits and ensure documentation is in place (RFVs via UK IVCO).
  • Input into business continuity plans and assist with security emergencies.

Security Controller – Part Time 16 Hours

Overview of the role

The Security Controller is accountable for ensuring Chemring Countermeasures complies with all UK Government protective security requirements, including List X obligations, and maintains robust personnel, physical, and information security arrangements.

The role is critical in safeguarding classified information, managing insider threat risk, and embedding a strong security culture across the organisation.

Responsibilities
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to develop and enforce security strategies and policies which protect plant, process, people and sensitive information.
  • Oversee security vetting.Consult People Director on any concerns.Assist HSE with license requirements relating to the handling and storage of explosive materials (Acquire and Keep license, Drugs and hazardous goods).
  • Complete security risk and impact assessments by job role and department
  • Advise management, employees and contractors on the measures to be taken to protect Government classified information
  • Ensure Security Aspect Letters (SAL) are circulated to those responsible for the security of specific contracts/products for onward dissemination to ensure all aspects of the SAL are adhered to.
  • Coordinate Defence Security and Assurance Services Audits.
  • Ensure breaches of security are recorded and/or reported to the relevant authorities such as the Defence Industry WARP Directive, Alert and Advisory Centre.
  • Train and educate the workforce on security protocols and raise awareness of security risks
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of security measures to ensure current Government Standards are met
  • Inform and consult other functional areas on Government and commercial security requirements and policy to assure security risks and threats are adequately managed - this includes cyber, digital, physical threat and commercial.
  • Oversee all incoming and outgoing site visits and ensure appropriate documentation are in place, including RFVs through the UK IVCO.
  • Input into business continuity plans and assist with the management of security emergencies efficiently.
  • Regularly evaluate security measures and update protocols as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant local, national, and international security regulations.
  • Maintain detailed records of security incidents and system irregularities.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience
  • Proven experience in security management and vetting, preferably in a high-security environment such as a munitions factory.
  • Familiarity with the UK Government standards and security frameworks which govern the protection of classified information within cleared facilities – this includes List X, IPSA
  • Strong understanding of security protocols, surveillance systems, and crisis management.
  • Experience managing security incidents and investigations
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Relevant certifications in Security Management or similar fields
  • A high level of discretion and integrity
Desirable Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience
  • Experience as a Security Controller
  • DISA qualification or equivalent
  • of the National Security Act 2022.
  • Knowledge of the safety regulations for ordnance, munitions, and explosives as outlined by the Defence Ordnance, Munitions, and Explosives (OME) Safety Regulator (DOSR)
