Job summary

National Grid in Warwick is seeking a Security Consultant to join our security team on a permanent, hybrid basis. You will work with the Senior and Lead Security Architects to define security requirements and align business and IT programmes with the wider security strategy.

You'll perform security reviews, risk assessments, and act as a trusted advisor to enable secure delivery of operations while promoting security awareness across the business.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Experience with IT security principles in industry or consultancy.
  • Strong IT network security knowledge and data flows understanding.
  • Familiarity with SIEM, vulnerability management and OT security controls.
  • Experience with ITIL processes and secure software development lifecycles.

Responsibilities

  • Provide security consultancy to programmes and projects on security matters.
  • Perform security reviews and design of application and technology architectures.
  • Coordinate security design reviews with Security team segments.
  • Evaluate systems and procedures to safeguard information assets.
  • Conduct security risk assessments and act as trusted security advisor.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders to understand priorities and risks.
  • Support risk identification, assessment and remediation.
  • Promote security awareness and a positive security culture.
  • Drive standardisation and process improvement with automation where possible.
  • Monitor compliance with policies, standards and regulatory obligations.
  • Influence decisions to embed security in business processes and changes.

National Grid is hiring a Security Consultant on a permanent basis. This position is based in Warwick and operates under a hybrid working model.

What you'll do

As a Security Consultant, you'll support the Senior Security Architect, Lead Security Architect and Senior Security Officer to define security requirements and connect the business and IT programmes into the wider security organisation. Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide a security consultancy steer to programmes and projects, on security related matters.
  • Security review and design of application and technology architectures.
  • Coordinate technical design/review activities with various segments within the Security team.
  • Evaluate systems and procedures to safeguard internal information systems and databases.
  • Perform security risk assessments
  • Act as the trusted security advisor to the business, ensuring cyber and information security risks are understood, managed, and aligned to business objectives while enabling the secure delivery of operational and strategic outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with business stakeholders to understand priorities, risks, and change initiatives.
  • Support risk identification, assessment, and remediation, ensuring security risks are appropriately managed and escalated where necessary.
  • Promote security awareness and a positive security culture across the business.
  • Continuous view toward standardisation and process improvement with a view toward automation where possible.
  • Monitor compliance with security policies, standards, regulatory obligations, and industry best practice.
  • Influence decision-making to ensure security considerations are embedded into business processes, technology changes, and strategic initiatives.
About you
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Appreciation of wider information security related principles, likely to be gained in industry or from a consultancy background.
  • Strong background in IT network security concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of data and information flows, information governance, network protocols.
  • Knowledge of system hardening techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience in SIEM technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience in vulnerability and risk management processes.
  • Knowledge and experience of applying cybersecurity controls within OT environments.
  • Knowledge and experience in software development lifecycle processes and ITIL principles.
  • Prior Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and utility industry experience preferred.
  • Information Security Certifications/qualifications are advantageous.
  • Flexibility to occasionally travel as role requires.

Competitive Salary: circa £46,000 - £54,000 per annum (based on capability, and experience)
