Job summary

National Highways is recruiting for a Compliance Lead within our Security Governance, Risk and Compliance function to drive the security compliance workstream and provide expert guidance to executives and teams across the organisation. The role focuses on embedding effective security compliance practices, managing findings, and driving remediation across a complex, multi-supplier environment.

The position is hybrid with two days in the office per week, based at National Highways offices across

Qualifications

• Experience leading teams or workstreams within security governance, risk, compliance, audit or assurance.
• Experience leading or supporting security audits, risk assessments and assurance reviews.
• Strong understanding of cyber and information security principles.
• Strong analytical and communication skills to explain security risks and compliance requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Knowledge of UK public sector security and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the Compliance workstream, providing direction, prioritisation and oversight to ensure high-quality outputs aligned with organisational and regulatory expectations.
• Oversee security compliance assessments, audits and assurance reviews across systems, services and business areas, ensuring findings are evidence-based, actionable and appropriately managed.
• Act as a senior subject matter expert, providing specialist advice to programmes, projects, operational teams and senior leaders on security compliance obligations, control requirements and identified gaps.
• Develop and deliver clear and accurate reporting on the organisation's security compliance posture, highlighting trends, risks, gaps and recommendations for improvement.
• Drive the remediation of compliance gaps, working with control owners, system owners and business leaders to ensure actions are assigned, tracked and completed, escalating risks where appropriate.
