Section Engineer – Nuclear Project (Materials & Scheduling)

Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking a Section Engineer to join a nuclear project in Cumbria. You will manage materials, equipment, and subcontractor interfaces to deliver programmed works safely and on time.

The role includes detailed planning, look-ahead programmes, permits and safety documentation, and direct supervision of junior staff. Based on-site, you will coordinate with foremen, suppliers, and third parties to meet project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Identify all required materials and procure them to support the programme of planned works.
• Monitor stock levels and arrange restocking as required.
• Complete material and resource returns; record usage and report wastage; present improvement recommendations.
• Maintain knowledge of subcontractors’ scopes; record changes to scope and notify line management.
• Produce and issue technical queries to resolve design information; distribute responses.
• Manage directly reporting junior staff and allocate their workload.
• Plan and coordinate all works with section foreman, including subcontractors and third parties.
• Produce and maintain a detailed look-ahead programme (minimum 3 weeks) of planned works and manage to the contract programme.
• Review progress weekly; identify variance; report reasons and action plans to recover slippage.
• Ensure permits, inductions, task briefs and documentation are in place and briefed before work starts.
• Undertake other duties as defined by the IMS plan or Site Agent.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements; report incidents or concerns.
• Maintain knowledge of project specifications to ensure works meet design and spec.
• Produce and gain approval of Inspection and Test Plans for works including subcontracted portions.
• Produce Non-Conformance Reports with remedial details and ensure close out records are provided.
• Ensure approved temporary works are in place and used; assist with temporary works design and execution.
