Job summary

Bimplus is recruiting a Section Engineer for a major civils project at Heathrow Airport. You will lead delivery of the link bridge package, coordinate self-delivered and subcontractor works, and ensure safety, quality and programme compliance.

The role requires a Civil/Structural Engineering degree, proven Section Engineer experience, and a track record with major contractors. A CSCS card and SMSTS/SSSTS are desirable for site leadership and compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Proven experience as a Section Engineer or senior Site Engineer seeking progression.
• Experience with Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractors and overseeing construction delivery.
• Experience managing direct labour and subcontractor packages on complex projects.
• CSCS card held and health and safety awareness demonstrated.

Responsibilities

• Manage delivery of link bridge and civil works, ensuring programme, quality and safety compliance.
• Provide engineering support during construction including design coordination and issue resolution.
• Review drawings and specifications to ensure accurate delivery of works.
• Lead setting-out and engineering control for self-delivered works.
• Coordinate subcontractors, monitor progress, quality and compliance with requirements.
• Support planning, sequencing, and resource allocation with the Site Manager and Project Team.
• Ensure works adhere to health, safety, environmental, and airport operational requirements.
• Assist in preparing Method Statements, Risk Assessments and ITPs and related quality docs.
• Provide technical guidance to Site Engineers and junior staff.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Section Engineer to join a major civils project at Heathrow Airport. This role will be responsible for the successful delivery of a significant link bridge package, including foundations, structural works, and associated civil engineering activities.Working within a live airport environment, you will play a key role in coordinating both self-delivered works and specialist subcontractors, ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.This is an excellent opportunity to work on one of the UK's most high-profile infrastructure projects while developing your career with a leading contractor.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the delivery of link bridge and associated civil engineering works, ensuring compliance with programme, quality, and safety requirements.
• Provide technical support and engineering expertise throughout the construction phase, including design coordination and issue resolution.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation to ensure accurate project delivery.
• Lead setting-out activities and engineering control for self-delivered works.
• Coordinate and manage subcontractors, monitoring performance, progress, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
• Support the Site Manager and Project Team with planning, sequencing, and resource allocation.
• Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with health, safety, environmental, and airport operational requirements.
• Assist in the preparation and review of Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and quality documentation.
• Monitor quality standards and ensure works are completed in line with project specifications.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Site Engineers and junior members of the team.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Section Engineer or an experienced Site Engineer looking to progress into a Section Engineer role.
• Previous experience working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor.
• Strong background in structural and civil engineering projects with experience overseeing construction delivery.
• Experience managing both direct labour and subcontractor packages on complex infrastructure projects.
• Excellent technical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Good understanding of construction methodologies, temporary works, quality assurance, and health and safety requirements.
• Previous experience on Heathrow Airport or other major infrastructure, transport, rail, aviation, or civils projects would be advantageous.
• Valid CSCS Card.
• SMSTS or SSSTS qualification desirable.

Security & Clearance Requirements

Due to the nature of the project and Heathrow Airport security requirements, candidates must:

• Be eligible to obtain an Airside Pass.
• Provide a fully checkable five-year employment history.
• Pass the required aviation security vetting process.
• Have no unspent criminal convictions.
• Be able to reliably commute to Heathrow Airport.
