Job summary

Education World Ltd is recruiting a Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming County Durham school from September. You’ll work with pupils aged 11–16 with a range of needs, helping them access learning and participate in class activities.

You’ll support lessons, manage sensory needs, encourage communication and independence, and build positive relationships with pupils and staff. A calm, patient approach and good teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals.
• Calm, patient and understanding approach.
• Confident handling of challenging behaviour.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Genuine passion for SEND.
• Reliability and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils aged 11–16 across the school.
• Provide individual and small-group assistance.
• Help pupils access differentiated learning.
• Support pupils with Autism and complex SEND.
• Encourage independence and self-advocacy.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
• Support sensory and regulation strategies.
• Help pupils develop essential life and social skills.
• Build strong relationships with pupils and staff.
