Job summary

Protocol Education Limited is seeking a dedicated Secondary Learning Mentor to support students aged 11-16 within a mainstream and SEN unit at a Brentwood school. You'll work 1:1, in small groups or class settings, liaising with teachers and parents to remove barriers to learning, maintain safe behaviour, and promote student wellbeing and confidence in their academic progress.

September 2026 start; 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, with ongoing professional development and DBS safeguarding

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting secondary pupils with additional needs.
  • Ability to work 1:1 and in small groups.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.

Responsibilities

  • Support secondary pupils who are lower ability or have additional needs across mainstream and SEN Unit.
  • Work 1:1, in small groups or classroom settings.
  • Liaise with teachers, parents/carers and support staff to provide quality assistance.
  • Build rapport, remove barriers to learning and support student development.
  • Provide a safe environment and promote pupil wellbeing.
  • Maintain strong behaviour management.

The Role

You will be expected to support Secondary aged pupils who are either lower ability, or have additional needs across the mainstream school and SEN Unit.

Working on a 1:1, small group or clasroom basis

Liaising with teachers, parents/carers and other support staff to provide the best quality assistance possible

Building strong rapports, breaking down barriers to learning and enhancing student personal and academic development

Providing a safe environment, for pupil well-being

Maintaining strong behaviour management
