Job summary

E‑ACT Bristol Academy South is seeking a Second in Department for Maths to support leadership and development of the Mathematics department. You will work closely with the Head of Department to drive standards across the curriculum and support colleagues in delivering excellent teaching and learning.

The role focuses on curriculum development, assessment, and improving student outcomes, with opportunities to contribute to strategic planning and the department’s growth.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status or recognised equivalent.
• Degree in subject specialism.
• Strong classroom teaching skills with proven progress outcomes.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Second in Department for Maths to support the leadership and development of our successful Mathematics department at E‑ACT Bristol Academy South. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and ambitious teacher who is passionate about delivering high-quality mathematics education and helping students achieve outstanding outcomes. Working closely with the Head of Department, you will contribute to curriculum development, support colleagues in delivering excellent teaching and learning, and play a key role in driving standards across the department.

Key responsibilities:

• Support the Head of Department in the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Mathematics department.
• Lead on identified areas of curriculum development, teaching and learning, assessment, or student outcomes within the department.
• Deliver consistently high-quality teaching that inspires students and promotes excellent progress and attainment.
• Monitor and evaluate student performance, supporting interventions to raise achievement and close attainment gaps.
• Assist in the planning, development and implementation of an ambitious and engaging mathematics curriculum.

Pay range:

• M1 - U3 plus TLR2A
• £34,069.00 - £52,835.00 plus £3,651.00
• 32.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
• Permanent

Qualifications and Skills:

• Qualified Teacher Status or recognised equivalent
• Degree in subject specialism
• Strong classroom teaching skills with a proven ability to secure excellent student progress and outcomes.
• Ability to support and motivate colleagues, promoting high standards of teaching and learning across the department.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and carers.
• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
