Job summary

Barchester Healthcare is seeking a qualified chef for a casual, part-time bank Second Chef role. You’ll support Head Chef with nutritious, flavoursome menus for residents, using fresh seasonal produce and a warm, resident-centred approach. The position offers flexible hours and opportunities to grow within a trusted UK care provider.

We value warm, motivated chefs who maintain high standards and enjoy delivering hotel/restaurant quality meals in a care home setting.

Qualifications

• Hold City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent.
• Experience in helping lead and inspire a team.
• Experience with fresh seasonal food and nutrition.
• Good understanding of HACCP.
• Personable and warm approach focused on resident wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
• Assist Head Chef in menu development.
• Work with fresh produce to deliver high quality, wholesome dishes.
• Create a warm, efficient and fun kitchen environment.
• Work within budget and complete regular audits.
• Manage stock control and lead a team.
