Job summary

Prestwick Care Group is hiring a Second Chef in the Newcastle area for a full-time position in a care home setting. You will support the Head Chef in preparing nutritious, home-cooked meals that meet residents’ dietary needs and preferences.

Qualifications

• Promote safe working practices in the care home.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
• Satisfactory Right to Work in the UK (must be maintained).

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in creating and maintaining structured cooking and cleaning schedules.
• Prepare and serve meals meeting dietary requirements (texture modified diets, allergens, diabetes, vegetarian, cultural menus).
• Maintain food stock levels, rotation and stock control in absence of Head Chef.
• Update kitchen equipment inventory and report maintenance issues promptly.
• Ensure HACCP, COSHH, hygiene, health and safety procedures are followed to high standards.
• Supervise junior kitchen staff and promote teamwork and high catering standards.
