Job summary

Prestwick Care Group in Newcastle area is seeking a dedicated Second Chef to support the Head Chef in delivering nutritious, home-cooked meals for residents. This full-time role focuses on meeting dietary needs and ensuring high standards of food hygiene.

You will work as part of a supportive kitchen team, manage schedules, and help deliver person-centred mealtimes. The position offers training, career progression, and a collaborative environment within a growing care provider.

Qualifications

• Satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
• Satisfactory Right to Work in the UK (must be maintained).
• Applicants must already be authorised to work in the United Kingdom; the employer is not able to provide new work authorisation.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Chef in creating and maintaining cooking/cleaning schedules for all kitchen areas in line with quality standards and CQC requirements.
• Prepare and serve meals meeting dietary requirements (texture modified diets, allergen free meals, diabetic, vegetarian, cultural menus).
• Maintain food stock levels, rotation, and stock control procedures in Head Chef's absence.
• Update and manage kitchen equipment inventory, reporting maintenance issues promptly.
• Ensure HACCP, COSHH, hygiene, health & safety, and risk assessments are followed to high standards.
• Support, supervise, and guide junior kitchen staff to maintain high catering standards.
• Understand and implement Care Home Health and Safety policy, including Emergency and Fire procedures.
• Promote safe working practices within the Care Home kitchen environment.
• Work with care staff to ensure mealtimes are positive and person-centred for residents.
