Job summary

Montana Department of Transportation is seeking a temporary Snowplow Driver/Hwy Maintenance Tech in Busby for winter road maintenance, operating heavy equipment, and related duties. Season typically begins mid-November and ends in April, with weekend/holiday work as needed.

A valid Montana CDL Class A, Type II with tank endorsement and MEC is required. The role includes driving, maintenance, and salt brine production, with occasional testing and interviews for placement based on experience.

Qualifications

• 1 year experience driving heavy trucks or operating construction equipment.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance and equipment operation; basic vehicle maintenance.
• Basic math, record keeping, computer skills, and the ability to estimate materials.
• Valid Montana Class A, Type II CDL with no restrictions; tank endorsement and MEC.
• Learner’s permit or Class B CDL holders have 30 days to obtain the required license.

Responsibilities

• Snow removal.
• Clean the right of way.
• Fix guardrail and repair fences, signs, and luminaires.
• Traffic control during maintenance operations.
• Salt brine production.
