Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring for a Seasonal Mail Sorter at Southampton Mail Centre. You’ll help process cards, gifts and parcels during our busiest time of year, unloading from delivery lorries and moving mail around sorting centres and warehouses.

No previous warehouse or mail sorting experience is required – just bring your enthusiasm and we’ll provide the rest. Night shifts are available to over 18s and there are various shifts including early, late and night.

As a Seasonal Mail Sorter, you’ll help process millions of cards, gifts, and parcels during our busiest time of year. Your duties will include:

• Unloading letters and parcels from delivery lorries
• Moving mail safely around our sorting centres and warehouses
• Helping sort letters and parcels quickly and accurately

We have a variety of shift patterns available at Southampton Mail Centre, Mitchell Way, SOUTHAMPTON, SO18 2XX, including the following core shift patterns:

• Earlies: 06:00 - 14:00 (£13.69 p/h)
• Lates: 14:00 - 22:00 (£15.14 p/h)
• Nights: 22:00 - 06:00 (£16.44 p/h)
• Weekends: Various shifts available (as above p/h)

Please note, night shifts are not available to applicants under 18 years old.

Depending on location, you may have access to facilities such as on-site canteens, break areas, social spaces and subsidised gym facilities.

What You’ll Need To Join The Team

You don’t need any previous warehouse operative, mail or parcel sorting experience. We’re looking for people who:

• Have a positive attitude and team spirit.
• Are organised and able to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment.
• Enjoy active, hands-on work, including working on your feet, pushing / pulling trolleys (up to 250kg with wheels!), and handling items up to 11kg.
• Are flexible and happy to switch tasks when needed.
