Job summary

Royal Mail in Gateshead is recruiting for a seasonal Mail Sorter to help during the Christmas rush. No prior warehouse or mail-sorting experience is required; just bring your enthusiasm and a readiness to work on your feet.

You’ll unload letters and parcels from delivery lorries, move mail around sorting centres and warehouses, and sort items quickly and accurately across shift patterns at Tyneside Mail Centre and Tyneside Collections.

Qualifications

• Have a positive attitude and team spirit.
• Are organised and able to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment.
• Enjoy active, hands-on work, including working on your feet, pushing / pulling trolleys (up to 250kg with wheels!), and handling items up to 11kg.

‘Tis the season to be earning a little extra

As a Seasonal Mail Sorter, you’ll help process millions of cards, gifts, and parcels during our busiest time of year. Your duties will include:

• Unloading letters and parcels from delivery lorries
• Moving mail safely around our sorting centres and warehouses
• Helping sort letters and parcels quickly and accurately

We have a variety of shift patterns available, including the core shift patterns below, at:

Tyneside Mail Centre, Lindisfarne House, Earlsway, Team Valley Trading Estate, GATESHEAD, Tyne And Wear, NE11 0YY

Tyneside Collections, Lindisfarne House, Earlsway, Team Valley Trading Estate, GATESHEAD, Tyne And Wear, NE11 0YY

• Earlies: 06:00 - 14:00 (£15.14 p/h) - Tyneside Mail Centre only
• Lates: 14:00 - 22:00 (£15.14 p/h)
• Nights: 22:00 - 06:00 (£16.44 p/h) - Tyneside Mail Centre only
• Weekends: Various shifts available (as above p/h) - Tyneside Mail Centre only

Please note, night shifts are not available to applicants under 18 years old.

Depending on location, you may have access to facilities such as on-site canteens, break areas, social spaces and subsidised gym facilities.

What You’ll Need To Join The Team

You don’t need any previous warehouse operative, mail or parcel sorting experience. We’re looking for people who:

• Have a positive attitude and team spirit.
• Are organised and able to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment.
• Enjoy active, hands-on work, including working on your feet, pushing / pulling trolleys (up to 250kg with wheels!), and handling items up to 11kg.
• Are flexible and happy to switch tasks when needed.
