Job summary

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to lead the Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit for a 6-month fixed-term/secondment.

You will oversee clinical leadership, coordinate assessments, investigations and discharge planning, support the nursing team, manage staffing and patient flow, and work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure timely, safe, patient-centred care and ongoing service improvement.

Qualifications

• Significant Band 5 experience in this specialty.
• Essential: 1st level registered; post registration education and development/relevant experience; 998 or equivalent; Non Medical Prescribing or willing to work towards.
• Desirable: Recognised Leadership development programme attendance.
• Essential: Knowledge of quality, audit and governance, risk management, health and safety, confidentiality, and statutory/professional requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day running of the Medical SDEC unit, ensuring safe, effective and patient-centred care.
• Undertake clinical assessments, support management of acute medical patients, coordinate investigations and treatments.
• Facilitate timely discharge or escalation to inpatient care as required.
• Supervise, support and develop the nursing team; manage staffing and patient flow.
• Contribute to governance, audit and service improvement activities; support staff training and development.
