Job summary

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to lead the Medical Same Day Emergency Care unit on a six-month fixed-term secondment. You will oversee the unit's daily running from clinical assessment to discharge or escalation to inpatient care.

You will manage staffing, patient flow, and develop the nursing team while working with the multidisciplinary team to reduce avoidable admissions and ensure patient safety and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• Band 6 requires significant Band 5 experience in this specialty.
• Registered nurse with first-level NMC registration.
• Non-medical prescribing, or willingness to work towards it.
• Knowledge of infection prevention, governance and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the day-to-day running of the Medical SDEC unit.
• Undertake clinical assessments of patients with acute medical conditions.
• Coordinate investigations and treatment.
• Facilitate timely discharge or escalation to inpatient care.
• Supervise, support and develop the nursing team.
• Oversee staffing and patient flow.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to maintain efficiency.
