Job summary

Gearing Recruitment Solutions Ltd is seeking a Scoping Engineer for the Water Industry on a hybrid, contract basis, covering Kent, Sussex and Hampshire.

The role requires a Mechanical, Process or Electrical bias, with site surveys, asset assessments and front‑end scoping to develop practical, buildable engineering solutions.

You will work with design and estimating teams to capture scope, identify risks and support feasibility studies as projects progress.

Qualifications

• Experience in UK Water or Wastewater industries is preferred.
• Mechanical, Process or Electrical engineering background required.
• Site surveys and asset inspections experience beneficial.
• Front-end engineering and project scoping experience desired.

Responsibilities

• Visit water/wastewater sites to conduct surveys and assess assets.
• Define project scope and engineering requirements.
• Review constructability and identify safe, efficient delivery methods.
• Identify risks, constraints and opportunities for the project.
• Collaborate with design engineers to develop practical solutions.
• Liaise with estimating teams to capture all elements and costs.
• Support feasibility studies and optioneering in early project stages.
• Produce technical scope documents and engineering reports.
• Provide technical support as projects move into construction.

Scoping Engineer - Water Industry

Hybrid Working | Contract Role

We're recruiting for a Scoping Engineer to join a growing Pre-Construction team, supporting major water and wastewater projects across Kent, Sussex and Hampshire.

This is a long-term opportunity for an engineer with a Mechanical or Process bias (although Electrical engineers will also be considered) who enjoys getting out onto site, understanding existing assets and developing practical, buildable engineering solutions.

The Role

Your duties will include:

• Visiting water and wastewater treatment sites to carry out engineering surveys.
• Assessing existing mechanical, process or electrical assets.
• Defining project scope and identifying engineering requirements.
• Reviewing constructability and determining the safest and most efficient way to deliver the works.
• Identifying project risks, constraints and opportunities.
• Working closely with design engineers to develop practical engineering solutions.
• Liaising with estimating teams to ensure every element of the project has been identified and accurately priced.
• Supporting feasibility studies, optioneering and early-stage engineering decisions.
• Producing clear technical scope documents and engineering reports.
• Providing technical support to delivery teams as projects move into construction.

Ideally you'll have experience in:

• UK Water or Wastewater Industry.
