Job summary

Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) is seeking a Scientist II to manage technical projects within the Food Sciences laboratory. You will oversee data review, client communications, and delivery within tight timescales, while mentoring junior staff and coordinating cross-site activities.

The role focuses on method development, validations, stability studies, and novel food projects, with the Reading-based position potentially required at other RSSL sites.

Qualifications

• Educated to Degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent relevant experience in a laboratory.
• Scientific understanding and ability to independently manage and deliver several projects.
• Experience in mentoring or supervising people, able to review data and sign off results.
• Accountable, honest, hardworking and able to work efficiently in a team.
• English fluency (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality customer service by organizing workload and ensuring data integrity.
• Manage internal/external projects to agreed timescales.
• Serve as primary client contact, host reviews, provide updates and invoices for external projects.
• Perform data review and interpretation of results for routine testing.
• Lead with coordination across sites and mentor junior staff.
• Cross-train and work in different labs as required.
