Qualifications

Job description

The Scientist will be a broad-ranging laboratory-based role aimed at expanding our Emerging Target Biology Team. The role involves bringing cell-based functional screening and immunology expertise to triage lead antibody candidates derived from Alchemab’s platform technology. Working closely within the Research team, the scientist will develop in-house capabilities for various cell-based assays, utilizing in vitro assay development skills and demonstrating expertise with cell lines and primary cells to study antibody functions in disease-relevant assays. Additionally, the candidate will work to improve workflows for data capture, analysis, and recording in partnership with the Alchemab Tech team.

The role is based in Cambridge, UK.

Responsibilities
  1. Independently design, perform, and interpret cell-based functional assays, including viability, proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion, T-cell activation, MLR, ADCC, and CDC.
  2. Utilize techniques such as cell culture, Western blots, ELISAs, MSD, flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry, imaging, and transcriptomic analysis including qPCR.
  3. Work with various cell types, including immortalized and primary cells from human blood samples, in monocultures and 3D formats.
  4. Use software tools like FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, Benchling, and ImageJ.
  5. Design, analyze, and interpret results from in vivo experiments.
  6. Assist other business areas, including Neuroscience and Oncology laboratories.
  7. Collaborate with the Scientific team and external research groups.
  8. Improve data capture, analysis, and recording workflows with the Tech team.
  9. Communicate results effectively to different audiences.
  10. Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebooks and equipment.
  11. Adhere to health, safety, COSHH, and Human Tissue Act regulations.
  12. Work with scientific leadership to review targets and build Alchemab’s target portfolio.
Experience & Requirements

Essential:

  • PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or industry equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently, troubleshoot, and communicate results clearly.
  • High attention to detail in assay planning and execution.
  • Strong background in cell biology, including designing complex cell and biochemical assays with immunological readouts, and expertise in flow cytometry.
  • Ambition to contribute to building a transformative company.
  • Proactive team player with good communication skills.
  • Experience in immunology target review.
  • Experience in an industrial drug discovery environment.
  • Experience collaborating with CROs or academic groups.
