Job summary

Hanham Woods Academy in Bristol area invites applications for a part-time Science Technician. The role focuses on supporting practical science lessons, preparing and maintaining equipment, and ensuring safe, engaging activities for pupils aged 11–16.

The post requires at least A Level science or equivalent, COSHH knowledge, and proficient IT and administration skills. 15 hours per week during term time plus inset days, with a start planned for October 2026.

Qualifications

  • Practical experience following processes and procedures.
  • Experience using, cleaning, maintaining and ensuring safety of specialist equipment.
  • Educated to at least A Level in science or equivalent laboratory experience.
  • COSHH knowledge or safe handling of hazardous equipment and related regulations (CLEAPPS guidance).
  • Confident use of IT systems relevant to the post.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Good general administration skills.

Job Title:Science Technician
Actual Annual Salary:£9,302 - £10,139 Based on hours and weeks worked
Full Time Equivalent Salary:£26,798 - £29,208 (CLF Grade B) Based on full time hours, all year round.
Contract Type:Permanent, Part Time
Hours:Part time, 15hours per week, Term Time only plus 5 Inset Days
Working Pattern: 5 hours per day - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

To be successful in the post, we are looking for aScience Technician who will support with the practical and technical aspects of the Science curriculum. They will prepare, provide,maintainand manage the necessary resources and informationrequiredto enablehealthy,safeand engaging practical activities to be undertaken by staff and students.

About You:
  • Practical experience of understanding and following processes and procedures.
  • Experience of using, cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring the safety of specialist equipment.
  • Educated to a minimum of A Level standard in science and/or equivalent experience in science such as laboratory experience.
  • Hold a relevant vocational qualification e.g. COSHH and/or have knowledge of safe working practices in relation to the handling and usage of hazardous equipment and tools which may include knowledge of COSHH regulations and/or CLEAPPS guidance.
  • Confident use of IT systems relevant to the post.
  • Good standard of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good general administration skills.
