Job summary

TeacherActive is working with an outstanding 11-18 school in Solihull to recruit a Science Technician. The role starts September 2026 and runs 37 hours per week during 39 weeks per year, Monday to Thursday 8am-4pm and Friday 8am-3.30pm.

You will prepare equipment and materials for lessons and exams, and keep stock records. Attention to health and safety, you will ensure laboratories and stores remain safe and well organised.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a science laboratory, school or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of safe laboratory practices and chemical/material storage.
  • Experience preparing equipment and materials for practical science lessons.
  • Excellent organisation and stock control skills.
  • Understanding of health and safety procedures in a laboratory.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Science Technician
Location: Solihull
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: £110 - £120 per day

Can you maintain a safe, organised and well-resourced laboratory environment?

TeacherActive is proud to be working with an outstanding 11-18 comprehensive school in Solihull with approximately 1,700 students. The school has a strong culture of high achievement and professional development, with excellent resources and facilities and a successful Science department.

The school is looking to take on a Science Technician from September 2026, working 37 hours per week during term time, 39 weeks per year, Monday to Thursday 8am-4pm and Friday 8am-3.30pm. The successful Science Technician will support the technician team by preparing equipment, materials and experiments for lessons and examinations, maintaining equipment and stock records, and ensuring laboratories, preparation rooms and chemical stores remain safe and organised.

The successful Science Technician will have:
  • Experience working within a Science laboratory, school or similar environment
  • Knowledge of safe laboratory practices, including the storage and handling of chemicals and materials
  • Experience preparing equipment and materials for practical Science lessons
  • Excellent organisation and stock control skills
  • An understanding of health and safety procedures within a laboratory environment
  • A reliable, proactive and adaptable approach to supporting the Science department
