Job summary

Coast and Vale Learning Trust is seeking a reliable Science Technician to support the Science Department across Key Stages 3-5 by preparing equipment, maintaining laboratories, and ensuring health and safety compliance.

You will work closely with teaching staff to deliver practical lessons, manage stock, and assist with demonstrations and displays, contributing to a safe, engaging learning environment.

Qualifications

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.

• Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements within a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, assemble and clear away equipment, chemicals and materials required for science lessons and practical activities.
• Provide technical support to teaching staff during practical lessons where required.
• Maintain laboratories, preparation rooms and equipment in a safe, clean and organised condition.
• Monitor and manage stock levels, placing orders and maintaining inventory records.
• Assist with the safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with current regulations.
• Carry out routine maintenance, testing and calibration of laboratory equipment.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, COSHH regulations and school procedures.
• Support the development and preparation of practical demonstrations and experiments.
• Maintain accurate records relating to equipment, chemicals and safety checks.
• Assist with displays, open evenings and departmental events where required.
• Contribute to the efficient day-to-day operation of the Science Department.

We are seeking a reliable, organised and enthusiastic Science Technician to join our Science Department. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning by preparing equipment and materials for practical lessons, maintaining laboratory resources, and ensuring that health and safety standards are consistently met.
