Job summary

The Becket School in West Bridgford is seeking a Science Technician to support science teachers with practical lessons and experiment setup. You will prepare materials, carry out risk assessments, manage stock and assist across KS3–KS5 science.

We value IT proficiency, clear communication and a supportive, professional approach. This role is term-time only with 27 hours per week, including 17 permanent and 10 fixed-term hours until 31 August 2027.

Qualifications

  • IT proficient with excellent communication skills.

  • Organised and reliable with good time management.

Job description

As a Science Technician, you will provide support to our team of science teachers and your duties will include preparing materials and equipment for planned practical lessons, carry out risk assessments, keep check of stock and dispose of waste appropriately. You will ensure there is effective support for practical work across the Science department.

This is a permanent role, working for 27 hours per week, term time only. Please note 17 hours are permanent and 10 hours are fixed-term until 31 August 2027.

Key Tasks:
  • Arranging for apparatus to be available for lessons and students
  • Preparing experiments, setting up apparatus and equipment for demonstrations and practical lessons.
  • Preparation of chemicals and solutions,
  • Promote the well-being of our students providing guidance and support,
  • To organise technical support for practical work across KS3, KS4 and KS5 Biology, Chemistry and Physics
  • To assist the science teacher and/or pupils in supporting laboratory investigations across all Key Stages. This may include giving assistance/advice to Trainee teachers and NQT’s.
