Job summary

Longsands Academy in St Neots is seeking a dedicated Science Technician to support the Science department with engaging, practical learning. This role is 37 hours per week, term-time only, with a salary of £24,537 to £25,338 and ASAP start.

You will assist with equipment, safety, stock, and records, working alongside teachers and scholars to ensure safe, effective science lessons in a supportive school environment.

  • Prepare, organise and maintain equipment and resources for practical science lessons.
  • Support teachers and scholars during practical activities to create engaging learning.
  • Maintain laboratories, classrooms and prep areas to high standards.
  • Promote and maintain health and safety practices across the Science department.
  • Carry out routine maintenance, servicing and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
  • Monitor stock levels and manage ordering and storage of supplies.
  • Keep accurate records relating to health and safety, servicing schedules and resources.
  • Safely handle, store and dispose of chemicals and waste per regulations.
  • Assist with equipment checks, calibration and minor repairs.
  • Support departmental audits and ensure compliance with legislation and guidance.

Working closely with teachers and scholars, you will be instrumental in ensuring practical science lessons run smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities

As a Science Technician, you will:

  • Prepare, organise and maintain equipment, materials and resources for practical science lessons.
  • Support teachers and scholars during practical activities, helping to create engaging and effective learning experiences.
  • Ensure laboratories, classrooms and preparation areas are maintained to a high standard and ready for use.
  • Promote and maintain excellent health and safety practices across the Science department.
  • Carry out routine maintenance, servicing and cleaning of laboratory equipment and resources.
  • Monitor stock levels and manage the ordering, receipt and storage of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to health and safety, servicing schedules and departmental resources.
  • Safely handle, store and dispose of chemicals, specimens and waste materials in accordance with current regulations.
  • Assist with equipment checks, calibration and minor repairs where appropriate.
  • Support departmental audits and contribute to maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and guidance.
