Job summary

Gloucester Academy is seeking an organised and enthusiastic Science Technician to support the Science Department by preparing practical lessons, maintaining equipment and helping create exciting learning experiences for pupils.

You will coordinate the use of practical resources, maintain laboratories and ensure health and safety standards are followed, across biology, chemistry and physics for Key Stages 3 and 4. You will join a supportive team dedicated to inspiring learners daily.

Qualifications

• Understanding of Science Technician duties and responsibilities.
• Recent experience as a Laboratory Technician.
• Recent experience as a Science Technician in an educational setting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare equipment, materials and resources for experiments.
• Maintain Science classrooms and the Super Lab for a safe environment.
• Coordinate resources across biology, chemistry and physics for Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Source, cost and manage stock, liaising with suppliers and finance.
• Keep accurate stock records and ensure equipment is calibrated and serviced.
• Support staff and students in the classroom and participate in CPD.

At Gloucester Academy, we're looking for an organised and enthusiastic Science Technician to support our Science Department by preparing practical lessons, maintaining equipment and helping create exciting learning experiences for our pupils.

About the Role

As a Science Technician, you will support the delivery of engaging and practical science lessons by preparing equipment, materials and resources for experiments, maintaining laboratories and ensuring high standards of health and safety are followed.

Key aspects of the role include:

• To coordinate the use of practical resources and facilities and provide assistance and advice in meeting the practical needs of the science curriculum, including liaising with teaching staff and support staff outside of the department
• Maintaining Science classrooms and the Super Lab to ensure a clean, safe and orderly environment
• To co-ordinate the day-to-day organisation and development of resources across biology, chemistry and physics at Key Stages 3 and 4 only
• To contribute to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources and/or long-term projects
• To ensure the availability of suitable materials and equipment, compiling orders and liaising or negotiating with suppliers and finance departments. This will include sourcing, costing and suggesting economic alternatives to maintain stock levels.
• Keeping accurate up-to-date stock records
• To ensure that both routine and non-routine checking, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing of equipment are carried out to the required standard
• Servicing, testing, routine maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment
• Preparing equipment of laboratory classes in accordance with given instructions, CLEAPSS and AQA practical guidance
• Provide advice and guidance to staff and students on basic technical issues
• Checking materials and equipment before and after use by a class for quantity and damage
• Cleaning of glassware and other equipment
• Support staff and students in the classroom environment to assist in the learning process where appropriate
• To participate in a programme of CPD
• To attend relevant wider school and Trust based training sessions
• To actively contribute to the performance management and appraisal process

We're Looking For Someone Who:

• Has an understanding of Science Technician duties and responsibilities
• Recent experience of working as a Laboratory Technician
• Recent experience of working as a Science Technician in an educational setting
