Job summary

Tradewind Education is seeking a passionate Teacher of General Science to join a Barnsley secondary academy on a temporary basis, starting mid-September 2026. You will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4 and inspire curiosity and academic achievement.

The role is based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire with a competitive daily rate dependent on experience. QTS and a willingness to undertake safeguarding checks are required, with opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching General Science in a secondary school.
• Strong subject knowledge across KS3/KS4.
• Excellent classroom management and engagement skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and welfare of children.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality General Science lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
• Assess and monitor student progress, providing feedback to support achievement.
• Adapt teaching to learners with varying abilities and needs.
• Create an inclusive environment that promotes behaviour and engagement.
• Support students in reaching academic potential and developing a passion for Science.
• Contribute to department initiatives and attend meetings and PD.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate Science teacher to inspire students across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering engaging lessons that promote curiosity, critical thinking, and academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Science lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
• Assess, monitor, and record student progress, providing constructive feedback to support achievement.
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities and educational needs.
• Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes excellent behaviour and engagement.
• Support students in achieving their academic potential and developing a passion for Science.
• Contribute to departmental initiatives and uphold the academy's policies and procedures.
• Attend relevant meetings, training, and professional development activities as required.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching General Science within a secondary school setting.
• Strong subject knowledge across the Science curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to engage and motivate students.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Legal right to work in the UK.
