Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a Lead Practitioner of Science for a Manchester secondary academy to drive practical inquiry, required practical compliance, and A-Level outcomes. The role blends expert classroom delivery across Biology, Chemistry or Physics with strategic leadership of STEM pedagogy.

You will model evidence-based teaching, mentor early-career teachers, lead departmental moderation, and support curriculum sequencing and university outreach.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with an honors degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
• Proven track record of outstanding GCSE and A-Level outcomes.
• Experience in peer coaching, staff development or subject leadership.
• Deep practical laboratory expertise and strong quantitative explanation skills.
• Enhanced DBS Update Service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

• Model exemplary practical and theoretical Science teaching across KS3-KS5.
• Lead whole-department coaching and professional development workshops in STEM.
• Audit science schemes of work and ensure progression in practicals and quantitative skills.
• Oversee CLEAPSS health and safety compliance and equipment usage.
• Analyze student performance to inform targeted interventions.
• Coordinate university STEM outreach and Oxbridge/Medicine applications.
