Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is assisting a York-based academically rigorous secondary school to appoint an outstanding Lead Practitioner of Chemistry. The role blends expert classroom teaching with strategic STEM leadership, focusing on practical delivery, required practical compliance, and improving A-Level results.

Working with senior leadership, you will drive departmental coaching, enforce safety standards, and prepare Sixth Form students for medicine, biochemistry, and science courses.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with an honours degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering.
• Proven track record of outstanding GCSE and A-Level Chemistry results.
• Experience in peer coaching, staff development or subject leadership.
• Strong practical laboratory capability and CLEAPSS/COSHH knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Model exemplary chemistry teaching across KS4 and KS5.
• Lead whole-faculty coaching and peer observations in chemistry topics.
• Audit schemes of work, practical frameworks and safety logs in laboratories.
• Analyze assessments to design targeted revision for high achievers and others.
• Prepare sixth form students for university entrance tests in chemistry.
• Mentor early-career science teachers in theory and practical setups.
