School (Staff) Nurse (Full-time) - Maternity Cover

This is an exciting opportunity for candidates passionate about working with young people to join a thriving school community within a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Main duties include managing general sickness, injuries/minor accidents, and broader pastoral responsibilities. This is a 10-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.

Main Duties
  1. Provide nursing care for in-patients and outpatients.
  2. Update and record observations of in-patients regularly.
  3. Care for unwell pupils in the Health Centre, including supplying light meals if needed (training on food hygiene provided).
  4. Supervise morning surgery with doctors; ensure in-patients see their doctor daily.
  5. Assist with outpatient care, including triage, venepuncture, and wound care.
  6. Administer medicines and treatments, including asthma and allergy care.
  7. Assess and treat minor and sports injuries.
  8. Provide travel and routine immunisations.
  9. Participate in health promotion and education.
  10. Ensure medicals for new pupils are completed and records updated.
  11. Engage in training and team development activities, including training on asthma, diabetes, ADHD, epilepsy, and anaphylaxis.
  12. Provide First Aid to staff on site.
  13. Work flexibly on a rota, including late and early shifts, on-call nights, and necessary cover.
  14. Promote good nursing care and adhere to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  15. Undertake additional duties as needed, supporting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  16. Understand and follow safeguarding procedures, completing training as required.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC PIN.
  • Relevant education/continuing education in nursing, with at least 1-year post-registration experience.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Dual RN/Child Branch qualification is desirable.
  • Knowledge of NMC code of conduct.
  • Experience with immunisations, diabetes, asthma, minor injuries, and health promotion is desirable.
  • Experience working with young people in schools is advantageous.
  • Well-organised, detail-oriented, confident, and a team player with strong communication skills.
Working Hours

Week 1:

  • Mon-Tue: 7:30am-4pm
  • Wed: 3pm-11pm + on call 11pm-7:30am
  • Thu: 3pm-11pm + on call
  • Sat: Off
  • Sun: 9am-5pm

Week 2:

  • Mon-Tue: 7:30am-4pm
  • Thu-Fri: 3pm-11pm + on call
  • Sat: 3pm-11pm + on call
  • Sun: Off
