Job summary

AWD Online is seeking a Maintenance Operative / Caretaker to support a school site in Hinckley. This hands-on role covers security, maintenance, and general facilities tasks to keep the site safe, clean and welcoming for daily use and lettings.

Responsibilities include liaising with contractors, completing inspections and records, and assisting with cleaning, grounds work and first aid. A clear health and safety focus and a flexible approach are essential.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths/English (C/4) or equivalent.
• Hands-on maintenance or facilities experience.
• Confidence undertaking minor repairs across multiple trade areas.
• Understanding of site health and safety, compliance and safe working.
• Ability to use initiative, work independently, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
• Effective communication and teamwork with staff, contractors, suppliers, students and visitors.
• Basic IT skills, including email, internet searches and electronic forms.
• Ability to follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.
• Ability to attend meetings and INSET days as required.

Responsibilities

• Site Security and Access: Open and secure buildings and grounds, set and unset alarms, arrange emergency repairs where needed.
• Maintenance and Repairs: Complete minor building, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, plastering, decorating, fixtures and paths within competence.
• Health and Safety: Check spaces and equipment, remove hazards and follow site procedures.
• Contractor Coordination: Liaise with contractors and staff to monitor safe working and completion of works.
• Cleaning and Grounds: Support cleaning, remove litter, manage grounds tasks as required.
• Site Setup and Deliveries: Move furniture, support lettings, receive deliveries and maintain stocks.
• Monitoring and Records: Carry out site inspections, complete reports and communicate by email.
• First Aid Support: Provide basic first aid and support designated staff as required.
