Job summary

The Gateway Trust is seeking an experienced, hands‑on Site Manager to join Gateway Lane Primary School to oversee security, safety and upkeep of the site. You’ll lead the site and cleaning team and ensure buildings and grounds run smoothly for pupils and staff.

With proven site management or caretaking experience, you’ll manage budgets, coordinate contractors and maintain high health and safety standards in a busy school environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in site management, caretaking or a similar facilities role.
• A practical, can‑do approach with good problem‑solving skills.
• Experience managing or supervising a team.
• A sound understanding of health and safety practice.
• Experience managing budgets and prioritising work to meet deadlines.
• Confident liaising with contractors and communicating clearly with staff, pupils and visitors.
• Comfortable using IT for record‑keeping, ordering supplies and reporting.
• A flexible approach to working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Acting as principal key holder, responsible for site security, access and out-of-hours call-outs.
• Line managing and supporting the caretaking and cleaning team.
• Overseeing health and safety compliance, including risk assessments, fire safety checks and fire drills.
• Planning and managing routine maintenance, repairs and an annual maintenance budget.
• Liaising with external contractors to ensure work is completed to a high standard.
• Keeping the site secure, clean and safe in all weather conditions, including out-of-hours lettings when required.
• This role involves manual tasks such as lifting, working at height and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
