Job summary

St Margaret’s Junior School and St Margaret’s Infant School in Rainham, Kent, seek an enthusiastic Caretaker's Assistant to support the Caretaker and leadership teams. The role covers maintenance, site checks, safety, cleaning and assisting with deliveries across both sites.

You will help keep rooms ready for events, assist with contractor activity, and contribute to a welcoming, safe environment for pupils and staff. DBS checks apply.

Qualifications

• Hands-on approach to maintenance and basic repairs.
• Ability to identify site safety issues and report them.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable, organised and able to prioritise tasks.
• Good communication and approachable manner.
• Understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training.
• Ability to meet physical requirements with reasonable adjustments.

Responsibilities

• Undertake minor repairs and routine maintenance tasks.
• Support planned and reactive maintenance across the school site.
• Identify defects and report to Caretaker or staff.
• Keep external areas clean, safe and hazard-free.
• Assist with moving furniture and setting up rooms for activities.
• Help with opening, closing and securing the premises.
