The Role
The School Receptionist will act as one of the first points of contact for the school community, ensuring telephone calls, emails and face-to-face enquiries are handled professionally.
Daily responsibilities will include welcoming visitors, signing guests in and out, issuing visitor passes and contacting relevant staff members when necessary. The receptionist will answer telephone calls, take messages, respond to general enquiries and direct parents and visitors to the appropriate department.
The role will also involve supporting pupil arrival and collection procedures, maintaining visitor records and assisting with the communication of routine school information. The successful candidate may help distribute correspondence, prepare documents, maintain reception records and provide general administrative assistance to colleagues.
Safeguarding and security will be important aspects of the position. The receptionist will be expected to follow school procedures for visitor access, report concerns to the appropriate staff members and maintain confidentiality when handling personal information.
During busy periods, the successful applicant will need to manage several enquiries at once while maintaining a friendly and professional approach. They will also help ensure that the reception area remains tidy, organised and welcoming throughout the school day.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in reception, customer service or administration. Excellent communication skills, a professional telephone manner and confidence using computers and standard office software are essential.
