Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking an experienced Premises Assistant for a friendly primary school in Taunton. You will help maintain buildings and grounds, keeping the environment safe, secure and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors.

The role covers opening/closing, routine inspections, minor repairs, moving furniture, supporting contractors, health and safety checks and room preparation for events. An Enhanced DBS is preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working within a school premises, caretaking or facilities environment is essential.
• Good practical maintenance skills.
• Understanding of school health and safety procedures.
• Reliable and proactive approach.
• Ability to work independently.
• Enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Opening and closing procedures.
• Carrying out routine site inspections.
• Completing minor maintenance and repairs.
• Undertaking basic DIY tasks.
• Monitoring the condition of classrooms and communal areas.
• Maintaining playgrounds and outdoor spaces.
• Moving furniture and equipment.
• Supporting deliveries and storage.
• Assisting contractors and maintenance providers.
• Reporting defects and maintenance issues.
• Supporting health and safety checks.
• Assisting with fire safety procedures.
• Preparing rooms for school events.
• Supporting the wider premises team as required.
