Job summary

Smile Education are recruiting a reliable School Maintenance Operative to join a welcoming primary school in the Birmingham area. The role involves hands-on maintenance, ensuring a safe, clean and well-presented environment for pupils and staff.

You will work with staff, contractors and the premises team to keep facilities functional and compliant with safety requirements. The ideal candidate will have practical maintenance experience in schools or similar environments, with a proactive approach

Qualifications

• Experience in maintenance, caretaking, facilities management or similar practical role.
• Experience within a school or educational environment preferred.
• Strong general DIY and maintenance skills.
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs across the school site.
• Perform routine checks of classrooms, buildings, communal areas and external spaces.
• Identify issues and ensure they are reported and dealt with promptly.
• Carry out basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating and DIY tasks as required.
• Support upkeep of school grounds and furnishings; maintain safe, fit-for-purpose facilities.
