Job summary

Education World Ltd is recruiting a Caretaker for Sunderland to maintain a safe, secure, and well-presented school environment. The role combines practical maintenance with site security, health and safety, housekeeping, porterage, and general facilities support.

The ideal candidate will have practical experience maintaining facilities, basic repairs, and a solid understanding of health and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Previous practical experience maintaining facilities or premises.
• Working knowledge of buildings and first-line repairs.
• Good knowledge of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to organise and prioritise workloads.
• Confidence using small tools and undertaking practical tasks.
• Reliable, flexible, and solution-focused approach.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a facilities team.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of young people.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance and first-line repairs across the school premises.
• Support planned and reactive maintenance activities.
• Undertake routine health and safety, premises, and fire safety checks.
• Support opening, locking, and general security of the school site.
• Monitor security systems, alarms, locks, and CCTV and report faults where required.
• Support contractors working on site.
• Carry out porterage of furniture, equipment, goods, and deliveries.
• Support housekeeping, waste management, cleaning, and grounds maintenance requirements.
• Monitor plant and equipment and report faults or hazards promptly.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and adverse weather conditions.
• Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.
