Job summary

Education World Ltd is seeking a reliable Caretaker to join a secondary school in Gateshead. The role covers maintenance, security, health and safety checks, porterage, housekeeping, and responding to issues across the site.

The successful candidate will work with the facilities team to keep premises safe, clean and well-presented throughout the year. Prior caretaking or premises experience is preferred, with a practical approach and good health and safety awareness.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a practical facilities, premises, maintenance or caretaking role is preferred.
• Good knowledge of health and safety procedures and first-line repairs.
• Ability to organise and prioritise work effectively.
• Confidence using small tools and carrying out practical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance and first-line repairs across the school site.
• Undertake routine site inspections, safety checks, and fire safety duties.
• Support the opening and locking of school premises in a safe and secure manner.
• Monitor locks, alarms, CCTV and report faults.
• Respond to repair requests and escalate where needed.
• Monitor plant, equipment, utilities and general building condition.
• Porterage duties including moving furniture and deliveries.
• Assist with housekeeping, waste management, and grounds maintenance.
• Respond to emergencies and adverse weather appropriately.
• Ensure safeguarding and health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
