Job summary

Houstone School is seeking a Medical Welfare Officer to provide first aid and medical support within the school. The role oversees the Medical Room, coordinates First Aiders, maintains records, liaises with parents and emergency services, and administers prescribed medication as per individual health plans.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in a school environment.
• Full First Aid at Work certificate or willingness to train on appointment.
• Knowledge of how to identify and treat minor medical issues.
• English and Maths at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent.
• ICT skills with experience of using Microsoft Office and databases.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, drive and resilience, with a flexible approach.
• Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection.

Responsibilities

• Act as the lead Medical Welfare Officer and Lead First Aider, overseeing the Medical Room and coordination of First Aiders.
• Ensure First Aiders are trained and qualified, maintaining a qualification register.
• Maintain records of pupil health concerns and communicate with staff as appropriate.
• Administer medication in line with healthcare plans and school policy.
• Support pupils with pre-existing medical conditions and provide care as required.
• Coordinate medical and first aid training for staff and manage medical room stock.
