Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a Medical Officer to join a specialist SEND school in Billericay, Essex on a full-time maternity cover starting in November 2026. You will oversee medical and healthcare needs of pupils and administer medication.

The role requires experience in school healthcare, first aid, and working with SEMH needs. You will collaborate with parents, staff and external healthcare professionals, maintain records, and support safeguarding.

Qualifications

• Experience as Medical Officer or school healthcare professional.
• Knowledge of medication administration and healthcare procedures.
• Experience working with children or young people in a school or SEND setting.
• DBS check (Enhanced) willingness to obtain Update Service.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day medical and healthcare needs of pupils.
• Administer prescribed medication per policies and plans.
• Provide first aid and respond to medical incidents.
• Maintain confidential medical records and logs.
• Support pupils with ongoing medical conditions and healthcare plans.
• Collaborate with parents, staff and external healthcare professionals.
• Ensure safe storage of medicines and equipment.
• Promote safeguarding and a safe school environment.
