Job summary

St Leonards School in St Andrews is seeking a Grounds Assistant to maintain the grounds and gardens to the highest standards. You will work under the Estates Supervisor and report to the Director of Finance and Operations, supporting health and safety practices and school policies.

You will perform a range of gardening duties, maintain lawns and pitches, assist with sports equipment, and help with winter gritting per policy.

Qualifications

• Educated to Standard Grade/GCSE level.
• National Certificate in Horticulture or equivalent SVQ, NVQ qualification.
• Desirable spraying certificate PA1/PA6.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out a variety of gardening duties, including hedge trimming, soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, spraying weed-killer, edging, bed preparation, planting and leaf collection.
• Maintaining and cultivating lawns, including cutting, feeding and spraying.
• Brushing the artificial grass pitch and clearing litter, debris, weeds and moss.
• Ensuring playing fields, borders and footpaths are clear and free from litter at all times.
• Carrying out gritting, salt spreading and snow clearing per policy; may require extra hours in extreme weather.
• Cutting, marking and over-marking sport pitches and running tracks; using pitch marking machine.
• Assisting with erection/dismantling of sports equipment (goals, nets, floodlights).
• General maintenance of equipment; report defects to Estates Supervisor.
• Securing and storing equipment; refuel supplies and report faults.
• Lifting/moving furniture and equipment; annual painting of benches.
