The Mercian Trust in Walsall is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to join our team. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will ensure the security, maintenance and cleanliness of the academy site, support deliveries, and uphold health and safety across facilities and grounds.

We expect a good standard of education with literacy and numeracy, training in first aid and safety, and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies while maintaining logs and compliance records.

Qualifications

• Good literacy and numeracy
• First aid, fire safety, asbestos awareness, legionella awareness and manual handling training, or willingness to complete these
• Working knowledge of health and safety legislation and good practice relevant to school premises
• Knowledge of fire safety, COSHH, asbestos management, legionella control, security and safeguarding procedures
• Ability to organise workload and maintain consistently high standards
• Ability to implement maintenance programmes and respond calmly to emergencies
• Good written, verbal and digital communication skills, including maintaining logs, schedules and compliance records
• Practical maintenance and problem-solving skills, with the judgement to recognise when specialist support is required

Responsabilités

• Be responsible for the security, safety, maintenance, and cleanliness of the site and buildings.
• Provide porterage of Academy deliveries.
• To undertake tasks to ensure the maintenance, security and health and safety of the school site (including grounds, buildings, facilities and equipment, ensuring efficient and effective operation.)
• Responsible for health and safety compliance requirements
