Job summary

Shire Oak Academy in Walsall is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to join our team. You will be responsible for the security, maintenance and cleanliness of the site, ensuring safe and welcoming learning environments for students and staff.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role covers porterage, health and safety compliance, and day-to-day building upkeep. The post carries the Scale Grade 5 pay range and requires good literacy, numeracy and practical maintenance skills.

Qualifications

• Good standard of education, including literacy and numeracy
• First aid, fire safety, asbestos awareness, legionella awareness and manual handling training, or willingness to complete these
• Working knowledge of health and safety legislation and good practice relevant to school premises.
• Knowledge of fire safety, COSHH, asbestos management, legionella control, security and safeguarding procedures
• Ability to organise workload and maintain consistently high standards
• Ability to inspect premises, identify defects and risks, prioritise work and arrange effective solutions
• Ability to implement maintenance programmes and respond calmly to emergenciesGood written, verbal and digital communication skills, including maintaining logs, schedules and compliance records
• Practical maintenance and problem-solving skills, with the judgement to recognise when specialist support is required

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for the security, safety, maintenance, and cleanliness of the site and buildings.
• Provide porterage of Academy deliveries.
• To undertake tasks to ensure the maintenance, security and health and safety of the school site (including grounds, buildings, facilities and equipment, ensuring efficient and effective operation.)
• Responsible for health and safety compliance requirements.
