Job summary

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a School Caretaker for a Wakefield secondary school on a full-time, permanent basis. The role focuses on maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment with day-to-day site tasks.

The successful candidate will manage opening/locking, carry out maintenance, health & safety checks, coordinate with contractors, and support events and exams. Experience in a school setting is advantageous, with strong organisational and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Experience as a caretaker, site supervisor, facilities, maintenance, or estates role.
• Knowledge of health and safety practices.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise workload.

Responsibilities

• Opening and securing the school premises each day.
• Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and DIY tasks.
• Conducting regular health and safety checks across the site.
• Monitoring the condition of buildings, grounds, and facilities.
• Liaising with contractors and supporting planned maintenance works.
• Assisting with room setups for events, examinations, and school activities.
• Managing site security and responding to site-related issues.
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures and statutory requirements.
• Supporting the wider site team with day-to-day operational tasks.
