Job summary

Coyle Personnel Ltd is seeking a reliable Caretaker to support the day-to-day operation and security of a busy school site in Bristol. The role focuses on maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Based at the school in Bristol, you will perform routine maintenance, security monitoring, and event setup while ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements. A hands-on, flexible approach is essential to support the school community.

Qualifications

• Experience as a caretaker, facilities, maintenance or site operative.
• Basic maintenance skills across building fabric, carpentry, plumbing & decorating.
• Understanding of health and safety in public/educational settings.
• Good communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Enhanced DBS Check (or willingness to obtain one).
• Flexibility with working hours when required.

Responsibilities

• Opening and securing school buildings and grounds.
• Carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and basic decorating tasks.
• Conducting regular health and safety checks across the site.
• Monitoring site security and responding to alarms where required.
• Setting up rooms and facilities for school events, assemblies and meetings.
• Managing waste disposal and keeping external areas clean.
• Liaising with contractors and supporting planned maintenance activities.
• Reporting defects, hazards, and maintenance issues promptly.
• Assisting with compliance checks, including fire safety and emergency procedures.
