Job summary

Construction is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to join a friendly maintenance team within a well-established educational environment in Harrogate. The position is hands-on, focusing on building upkeep, safety, and presenting premises to a high standard.

The role includes opening/locking buildings, routine maintenance, basic plumbing and joinery, and coordinating with contractors. 35 hours per week, 6:00-1:30 or 12:00-7:30, with weekly on-call rotation and on-call allowance.

Qualifications

• Experience in building maintenance, facilities, caretaking or similar roles.
• Able to perform basic plumbing, joinery, decorating and repair work.
• Experience with planned preventative maintenance schedules.
• Organised and capable of managing a varied workload.
• Professional and personable approach.
• Basic IT skills and ability to complete maintenance reports.
• Hold a full UK driving licence.
• Willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Open and secure buildings each day.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and general upkeep.
• Perform routine security checks, fire alarm testing and emergency lighting inspections.
• Undertake minor repairs, decorating and general maintenance work.
• Assist with plumbing, joinery and handyman tasks.
• Install and maintain fixtures and fittings.
• Clear drains, gullies and guttering as required.
• Set up rooms, furniture and equipment for meetings and events.
• Liaise with contractors and ensure work is safe and high quality.
• Receive, distribute and store deliveries and stock.
• Carry out basic vehicle inspections.
• Complete maintenance records and routine inspections.
• Ensure all work follows health and safety procedures.
