Job summary

Featherstone Primary School is seeking a motivated Building Services Assistant to support the day-to-day maintenance, security and upkeep of the school site. The role operates on a variable shift pattern between 7.00am and 6.00pm, offering hands-on experience in facilities management.

You may come from a background as a handyman, caretaker or premises assistant, or you may be early in your career looking to develop practical skills.

Qualifications

• Be practical and enjoy hands-on work.
• Have basic DIY and repair skills.
• Willingness to learn and develop on the job.
• Reliable, hardworking and organised.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain security of the school premises, including keyholding, opening/closing and alarm operation.
• Maintain grounds and outdoor areas, including litter picking, gritting and snow clearance.
• Assist with set-up and clearing of classrooms, halls and outdoor spaces for events.
• Undertake manual handling and move equipment as required.
• Assist with deliveries and site stock management.
• Carry out basic repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Assist with painting, decorating and DIY projects.
• Conduct routine site inspections and health and safety checks.
• Assist contractors when required.
