Job summary

West Sussex County Council is seeking a part-time Catering Assistant at Woodlands Meed School in Burgess Hill to support pupils with nutritious meals and life skills. The role emphasizes a welcoming, high-service environment and adherence to health and safety standards.

The position operates during term time with a 22.5-hour week pattern (9:30am–2:00pm, Monday to Friday) and includes 39 weeks of work plus 5 cleaning days. It offers a supportive team and pension benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering with good customer service.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Experience with Health & Safety procedures in a commercial setting.
• Understanding of different needs of young people with special educational needs.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day operation of the kitchen including preparation, cooking and cleaning to required standards.
• Work in a busy environment and support colleagues to maintain high standards.
• Regularly lifting, moving and handling large equipment.
• Follow written documentation for Health & Safety and Food Safety.
