Wayman Education in West London is seeking a reliable School Caretaker / Site Assistant to join the facilities team. You will help keep the school site safe, clean, and fully operational for pupils and staff, working with the Premises Manager on daily maintenance, security, and safety checks.

The role offers stable hours, weekly PAYE pay rates, potential overtime during busy periods, and a clear path to a permanent contract.

Competenze

• Experience as a Caretaker/Site Assistant or similar role in a school is preferred.
• Good practical DIY skills with awareness of Health & Safety standards (COSHH, manual handling, working at heights).
• Reliable, punctual, physically fit and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Must hold a valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to process a new one.

Mansioni

• Site Security: opening/closing grounds, alarms, gates, daily checks.
• General Maintenance & Repairs: basic DIY, plumbing, carpentry, painting and repairs.

Pay Rate: £14.00 – £17.00 per hour / £120 – £135 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

A popular and vibrant secondary school in West London is seeking a reliable, practical, and proactive School Caretaker / Site Assistant to join their facilities team.

This role is essential to ensuring the school site remains safe, secure, clean, and fully operational for pupils, staff, and visitors. You will work alongside the Premises Manager to handle daily maintenance, security, health & safety checks, and general porterage across the school grounds.

Key Responsibilities:

• Site Security: Handle opening and closing of school grounds, setting alarms, securing gates, and performing daily site security checks.

• General Maintenance & Repairs: Carry out basic DIY, plumbing, carpentry, painting, decorating, and general repairs across school buildings.

• Health & Safety Compliance: Perform routine statutory checks, including fire alarm testing, emergency lighting tests, water temperature checks (Legionella), and playground inspections.

• Grounds & Porterage: Move furniture, set up hall layouts for assemblies, exams, and school events, accept deliveries, and keep outdoor areas clean and tidy.

• Contractor Liaison: Escort visiting maintenance contractors on-site and ensure work is completed safely.

Candidate Requirements:

• Experience: Previous experience as a Caretaker, Site Assistant, Facilities Officer, or in a trade/handyperson role (school experience is preferred but not essential).

• Skills: Good practical DIY skills, awareness of Health & Safety standards (COSHH, manual handling, working at heights), and a proactive problem‑solving attitude.

• Attributes: Reliable, punctual, physically fit, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Safeguarding: Must hold a valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to process a new one through Wayman Education.
