A popular and vibrant secondary school in West London is seeking a reliable, practical, and proactive School Caretaker / Site Assistant to join their facilities team.
This role is essential to ensuring the school site remains safe, secure, clean, and fully operational for pupils, staff, and visitors. You will work alongside the Premises Manager to handle daily maintenance, security, health & safety checks, and general porterage across the school grounds.
Site Security: Handle opening and closing of school grounds, setting alarms, securing gates, and performing daily site security checks.
General Maintenance & Repairs: Carry out basic DIY, plumbing, carpentry, painting, decorating, and general repairs across school buildings.
Health & Safety Compliance: Perform routine statutory checks, including fire alarm testing, emergency lighting tests, water temperature checks (Legionella), and playground inspections.
Grounds & Porterage: Move furniture, set up hall layouts for assemblies, exams, and school events, accept deliveries, and keep outdoor areas clean and tidy.
Contractor Liaison: Escort visiting maintenance contractors on-site and ensure work is completed safely.
Experience: Previous experience as a Caretaker, Site Assistant, Facilities Officer, or in a trade/handyperson role (school experience is preferred but not essential).
Skills: Good practical DIY skills, awareness of Health & Safety standards (COSHH, manual handling, working at heights), and a proactive problem-solving attitude.
Attributes: Reliable, punctual, physically fit, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Safeguarding: Must hold a valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to process a new one through Wayman Education.
